Londontown: Nail Veils

by Nicole Collins

Generally speaking, I’m a good Aries who is easily bored and regularly needs to change things up. I guess that’s partially why I love testing beauty products.  There is so much satisfaction in seeing what’s new and what’s next and what else is out there.

When it comes to nail polish, though, I’ve been a deeply loyal Essie Gel Couture girlie since the line launched in 2016.  It’s a truly revolutionary polish system in that you forgo a base coat, paint on two coats of gorgeous color and then one coat of their extra glossy top coat.  No lights like actual gels, and this manicure will last you 10 days chip free.  I swear on my Sephora VIB rewards points!

I’m the kind of gal who will not leave the house without nail polish.  I’d happily ditch many other things if I had to choose between them and my nail polish.  I actually feel naked without my polish on.  Call me crazy, but I know some of you are nodding in agreement.

I started my career in beauty nearly 20 years ago.  I’ve worked in product development, marketing and merchandising for nearly two decades and have had the great pleasure of working with big brands that you know and love and indie brands just getting started. I’ve been at it for so long, I worked with Urban Decay, Too Faced and NYX when they were indie brands just getting started, and now they’re the big brands you know and love.  I’ve tried just about every product you’ve ever heard of including all the nail polishes that claim to be long wear and clean and everything else.

I love my Essie Gel Couture and always will.  The only drawback is that, since I never let my nails breathe, I have brittle and stained nails.  I only notice that for the few minutes between removing an old manicure and repainting, but it’s a fact and my gut tells me it’s probably a little unhealthy.

So when my friends at Londontown told me they had a solve for me, I was cautiously optimistic.  I got my hands on the Londontown Perfecting Nail Veil ( shades #3 and #4), and dare I say that my life has been changed.  The Nail Veils are a one coat manicure that revive your damaged nails while you wander about looking totally put together.  There is no base or top coat.  You simply swipe on 1-2 coats of Perfecting Nail Veil, and you look fresh from the salon.

Shade #4 (the best seller and my personal fav shade) is a nude, dusty rose that will flatter any skin tone.  Shade #3 is also gorgeous and slightly less pigmented. Think ballerina sheer. Both offer just enough color to leave you looking totally put together while you’re actually undergoing nail rehab!  The polish is full of supercharged active ingredients delivering strengthening and moisturizing benefits. The formula abides by Londontown’s signature 21+ free formula, which never contains formaldehyde, toluene, phthalates (including DBP), formaldehyde resin, camphor, xylene, ethyl tosylamide, TPHP, bisphenol A, and any other icky stuff you don’t want on your nails.  They’re clean, vegan, breathable, gluten free and cruelty free.  Most importantly, they work.

I removed my red polish on a Thursday and covered my dry, brittle, yellow stained heinous nails with two coats of Perfecting Nail Veil #4.  The polish has alpha hydroxy acids (including Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, and Malic Acid) in it to help increase bioavailability of botanical actives like Florium Complex,  Londontown’s proprietary blend of Rapeseed Flower Oil, Cucumber Extract, Garlic Extract, Evening Primrose Oil, Chamomile Extract, and Vitamin E. The following Monday night I had to see what was happening, so I removed the nail veil to discover nails this girl hasn’t seen in over 30 years.  My nails were healthy with no splitting and no stains. Just gorgeous moisturized nails.  I have to admit that I was shocked.

So my life has been changed.  I can now give my nails a breather every once in a while but not be naked.  In fact, the person next to me in yoga won’t even know my nails are in treatment while we’re in downward dog.
