Olga Lorencin Skincare: The Eye Cream & Doctor Rogers: Restore Healing Balm
by Nicole Collins
I started my career in beauty nearly two decades ago after sitting myself down for a heart to heart. What do I really love, I asked myself? The obvious answer was beauty. I love the packaging, the goop, the colors, the brand stories and mostly I love the way great products make me feel. When I look my best, I feel my best and I can do my best.
Over the many years that I have worked in manufacturing, marketing, merchandising and brand building, I have had the extreme pleasure of getting my hands on damn near every beauty product sold in America. I’ve also sat next to chemists and brand founders as they develop the goop. I’ve seen what it really takes to make a great product, which has given me an even deeper respect for the craft.
On top of all of that, I’ve been lucky enough to get to know so many incredible brand founders. I’ve learned something from every one of them. It’s no secret to anyone who knows me that I adore (with a capital A) an indie brand. I love a brand that has a passionate founder at its helm driving product development. Their passion is always apparent in the products they put out and is often lost when a major beauty house buys the brand and the founder retires.
One of my favorite ladies in beauty is a powerhouse business woman and one of the all time best facialists (to the stars)! Olga Lorencin gave facials to Hollywood royalty for years at her Beverly Hills day spa, Kinara, where she perfected and coined her Red Carpet Facial, which you can now buy and do at home. Halle Berry has called Olga “Wonder Woman”, and anyone who has had the pleasure of getting one of her facials would agree.
Admittedly I love her entire product assortment because it’s expertly formulated based on Olga’s decades of experience touching faces of all kinds. I also love that it’s not nearly as pricey as other products of similar quality, which is a huge win. Estheticians know so very much about the skin because they touch real people’s faces all day every day. They are true experts when it comes to ingredients and knowing which creams and potions are best for who and for what skin concern.
Ever since I turned 35-ish and started leaning into anti-aging skincare because my face started asking for it, I’ve been hunting for great eye creams. I’m more prone to puffy than dark circles, and what I have realized is that the best eye creams are the most hydrating because dehydration is what ages us more than anything really (next to sun damage, of course).
I fell all the way in love with Olga’s The Eye Cream when I tried it for the first time two years ago, and I’m a tough critic. It fights both puffiness and dark circles and is mega hydrating. It’s a thick balm that can be used as a slugging balm if you’re super dehydrated or if you just like a balm for nighttime. If you want or like something a little lighter (especially for day time use), you can warm it up between your fingers to thin it out and apply a lighter layer. I use it morning and night, and It wears really well under makeup (no pills ever).
The secret in the sauce is Olga’s blend of peptides plus ash tree extract (an anti inflammatory to help reduce puffiness), ceramides, niacinamide, organic honey, evening primrose oil and siberian ginseng. The result is deep hydration, which gives you firmer skin and more elasticity. That results in fewer wrinkles and crows feet. Over time, you’ll see a reduction in puffiness and dark circles. It really does it all and is at the top of my very short list of eye creams that make the cut.
The other expert I’ll take skincare advice from is a female dermatologist who is also a skincare brand founder, a la Doctor Rogers. She launched her Restore Healing Balm years ago when she needed something great to give patients after treatments that left skin red, irritated or delicate. She also wanted something she could recommend to people who needed to repair their skin barrier after burns, cuts, etc. Something better than Aquaphor, you know?
The Restore Healing Balm is a soothing, hypoallergenic ointment that quickly heals irritated and injured skin and is also the greatest slugging balm on earth. From cuts and burns to eczema and post-procedure skin, this gentle balm, made from only biodegradable natural ingredients, protects and hydrates for a healthier skin barrier. It’s mainly whipped castor seed oil. It feels amazing all over your face and lips and is so much better for you than vaseline.
If “slugging” isn’t in your vernacular yet, let me help you out. Slugging is when you add a layer of thick moisturizer over your skincare (usually at night or on a plane) to prevent moisture loss. It’s not unlike locking in your skincare routine with a great oil as a final step. It’s ideal when your skin needs repair (after a treatment or sunburn) or if you’re in extreme weather (desert or mountains) or if you’re extra dehydrated for any reason at all. If slugging isn’t for you, Doctor Rogers Restore Healing Balm is an amazing lip treatment and wound care product. It’s one of those things you should always have a tube of, just in case.
I hope you get your hands on these two products from these two amazing female founders and a bunch of other products they make. If you do, hit me up on IG (@collinsinla) and tell me what you think? Or drop me a note on your favorite indie brands!
