OSEA: Undaria Cleansing Body Polish & Undaria Collagen Body Lotion

by Nicole Collins

I should start out by saying that there are a handful of brands that can do no wrong in my eyes: Vacation Inc., Pacifica Beauty, NARS and OSEA to name a few. Part of my deep love affair with beauty brands lies in their origin stories, and Osea Malibu has one of my favorite stories ever. It’s one of those brands that was an overnight success. You know the ones that go viral on social media (you’ve seen their Undaria Algae Body Oil all over the gram) and everyone thinks they discovered it when in fact it’s been around for almost three decades? Yeah, one of those.

Body Polish

Jenefer Palmer founded the brand in the ‘90s long before “clean beauty” was buzzy. Her grandmother taught her about the healing powers of the ocean, and the ocean remains the brand’s deepest inspiration. In the ‘80s while working at one of Southern California’s first wellness spas, Jenefer started formulating her own potions and created what would eventually become the OSEA Essential Hydrating Oil. Then and now she focused on the amazing benefits of seaweed because it’s a superfood rich in vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are moisturizing and have anti-ageing benefits backed by science. For nearly three decades (long before going viral was important) she’s been on a mission to create clean, seaweed-infused skincare that respects the natural world and makes skin look and feel its absolute best. Namaste.

In 1996 they officially launched the brand at Fred Segal on Melrose when that was by far the coolest place to shop in LA. OSEA stands for ocean, sun, earth and atmosphere. The natural elements of wellness. They promise that every decision, every product is made with consideration of their impact on our planet and our collective well being. They are clean and vegan and cruelty free. They are Climate Neutral certified and an Ocean Positive verified brand. They also have an amazing recycling program. OSEA is the real deal.

As I always say, though, none of that really matters if the products aren’t amazing, right? Well, they are. Again, OSEA can do no wrong by me because they nail it every time. The Undaria Cleansing Body Polish is one of my personal favs and one of the body products that can get me to spend good money. I usually buy body products at the drugstore, if I’m really honest. As I’m getting older, though, I have started investing in a few key prestige body products including the Cleansing Body Polish.

Body Lotion

It’s a really beautiful gel-to-milk polish that uses both pumice (a natural physical exfoliant) and Kiwi AHA Infused Rice Microparticles (a dual-action, physical and chemical exfoliant) to gently scrub away dead skin cells and product build up (like too much sunscreen after a long beach day). Of course, it also includes the brand’s signature Undaria seaweed. The whole formula is a microbiome friendly cleanser that gently exfoliates leaving you feeling like you just left the Korean spa. Call me crazy but I especially love it under my arms (since I use natural deodorants and want to make sure I’m washing away unwanted bacteria) and on my feet to keep them as soft as possible. Again, as I’ve matured, I appreciate luxe products like this in my shower to make me feel whole again after a long day of working and mom-ing. The glycerin and sunflower seed oil leave your skin ultra moisturized. It also smells amazing with notes of grapefruit, lime, cypress, mango and mandarin.

On the nights I take my “girl showers” and use my fanciest body products, I always moisturize with something equally luxe. OSEA’s new Undaria Collagen Body Lotion is a gorgeous super lightweight lotion that delivers mega hydration with hyaluronic acid and vegan collagen. It’s also packed with a biomimetic tetrapeptide that is scientifically proven to visibly firm skin in just 4 hours (even better over time of course), which I find extra amazing now that I’m in my 40s. Of course, it’s also got the Undaria seaweed, which replenishes the moisture barrier plus turmeric to brighten skin. It has the exact same scent as the body polish, which makes it the perfect finishing touch.

So, keep on keepin’ on, OSEA. I see you, and I love everything I see.
